The Ring Resizing Process
The resizing process begins with a consultation with one of our in-store jewellery repair specialists. During this time, we will measure your finger size and examine the ring to determine the best method of resizing. Factors such as the ring’s material, design, how many sizes are needed, and the presence of gemstones will all influence the approach. The ring is then sent to our local workshop for sizing.
Sizing Up
To make a ring larger, the jeweller will typically either stretch the band, or for a more significant increase, will cut the band and insert a small piece of matching metal. This new piece is then soldered into place.
Sizing Down
To reduce the size of a ring, a small section of the band is cut out, the band reshaped, and the ends rejoined.
Rings with gemstones, especially those set around the entire band, can complicate the resizing process, and in some cases, resizing may require the removal and resetting of gemstones.
After the resizing is complete, the ring undergoes a final clean and polish to restore its original shine, before undergoing an inspection to ensure the resized band is smooth and even.
