Choosing an Engagement Ring - FAQ's
Which engagement ring styles are most popular?
The classic solitaire or single stone engagement ring is a timeless choice, but halo or vintage-inspired designs with an oval or pear-shaped stone are also very popular right now. You could also choose a ring with a coloured gemstone, such as a yellow diamond or pink sapphire, as the centre stone: a beautiful way to showcase the wearer’s personality.
Should I choose gold or platinum?
Both gold and platinum are excellent choices when it comes to selecting an engagement ring. Platinum is naturally white, durable, and hypoallergenic, whilst gold comes in various colours: yellow, white, and rose, and is slightly softer than platinum. The choice for your engagement rings depends on preference, skin tone, and lifestyle.
How can I secretly find out my partner’s ring size?
If it’s a surprise, you could borrow one of their existing rings (from the correct finger) and bring it to us to measure. Or you could also ask a friend or family member. But don’t panic if the size isn’t quite right – most engagement rings can be resized after the proposal.
How much should I spend on an engagement ring?
There’s no set rule anymore as to how much you should spend – it’s about what feels right for you. Traditional “two months’ salary” guidelines aren’t as important as choosing an engagement ring that fits your budget and makes your partner happy. At Brufords, we can help you find beautiful options at any price point.
How do I choose the perfect diamond for an engagement ring?
Whilst most people start with the 4C’s (Cut, Clarity, Carat, and Clarity), in relation to the quality of the stone, choosing the diamond for an engagement ring is extremely personal choice. Think about what matters to you (and your partner) the most. Whether it’s size, sparkle, or budget related, at Brufords we’re here to guide you through the process and find the balance that fits all of your engagement ring requirements.
What’s the difference between natural and lab-grown diamonds?
Both natural and lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds with the same physical and chemical properties. Lab-grown diamonds are created in a controlled environment and usually cost less than natural diamonds. Natural diamonds are formed over millions of years and tend to hold a higher resale value. The choice for your engagement ring depends on your preferences and values.
How long does it take to have an engagement ring made?
Depending on the complexity of the design, it usually takes about 4-8 weeks for an engagement ring to be made, however it can sometimes be much quicker. As part of our promise to you, we’ll keep you updated on timelines so you can plan your perfect proposal.
Can I design a custom engagement ring?
Absolutely! We love helping customers bring their ideas and inspirations to life, and we’ll work with you to create a unique piece that reflects your love story.
What happens if my partner doesn’t like the ring?
At Brufords we understand that tastes can differ. If the engagement ring you initially select isn’t quite right, we offer an exchange policy so that you choose a ring that suits them better.
Do you offer a warranty or aftercare?
Yes! We provide a 5-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects and offer professional cleaning, polishing, and checking of the setting, to keep your engagement ring looking its best.
Do you offer payment plans or interest free credit?
Yes! We offer a range of flexible payment options to help make your purchase easier. You can choose to pay in full using a credit or debit card, or spread the cost for up to 36 months with 0% APR using our finance provider V12 Retail Finance.
*For V12 Retail Finance, terms, conditions, and minimum spend applies. Subject to acceptance. For more information, please contact us.
Do I need insurance for my engagement ring?
While it’s not compulsory, we highly recommend insuring your engagement ring for peace of mind. Insurance can protect against loss, theft, or accidental damage, and the cost is usually a fraction of the ring’s value. At the time of purchase, we’ll provide you with an insurance valuation document, which can be submitted to your chosen insurer.
What if I change my mind after ordering?
For rings in our core collection, we accept returns or exchanges within 28 days of purchase (terms apply).
For custom-made designs, we’ll work closely with you during the design process to make sure you’re happy before production, as bespoke pieces are non-refundable.
Do you keep my engagement ring purchase confidential?
Yes, absolutely! At Brufords we understand proposals are often a surprise, so all communication, invoices, and packaging are handled discreetly. For purchases made online, we can even arrange delivery to an alternative address to keep the secret safe.
