The Gemstone Replacement Process
The process of replacing a gemstone begins with a consultation with one of our dedicated jewellery repair specialists. They will evaluate the condition of the jewellery, the type and quality of the original gemstone, and discuss your preferences for a replacement stone. This is also the time to consider any potential upgrades or changes to the design.
Finding a suitable replacement is essential, and we will therefore source a gemstone that matches the original, or fits the need requirements, in terms of type, colour, size, cut, and quality. This is particularly important for maintaining the pieces aesthetic and sentimental value.
Once a stone has been chosen, the process begins by removing the old stone and preparing the setting. This may involve adjusting the original setting, or repairing it to accommodate the new stone, and can include tightening the claws, rebuilding the bezel, or redesigning the setting to ensure a perfect fit.
Following preparation of the setting, the jeweller carefully sets the stone, which requires precision and expertise to ensure the gemstone is aligned correctly and held securely in place. After setting the gemstone, the piece undergoes a final polishing and finishing process to enhance its overall appearance.
Finally, a thorough inspection is carried out to ensure the gemstone is securely set and it meets our standards of quality.
