We sat down with Simon Power, our Rolex Certified Pre-Owned Sales Manager, to talk about what the programme means for our clients.

Simon, can you tell us about your career in the watch industry?

I have worked in the watch industry since 1980, when the “quartz crisis” was in full swing. Even then, I knew mechanical watchmaking was the way forward and I was genuinely delighted when it emerged stronger than ever. After running businesses throughout the South East, I found myself working at Lakeside shopping centre, where I was first introduced to the Rolex brand. From there, I moved to a specialist watch boutique in Brighton, immersing myself in the Swiss watch industry, and Rolex in particular.

I joined the team at Brufords in 2009, and have been here ever since. I am immensely proud of the relationships I’ve built with our clients over the years, and being able welcome them back time after time is real privilege.

What is your role within the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned programme?

My role is to guide clients through every stage of the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned journey, whether they are looking to discover a pre-owned Rolex watch or are considering selling one to us. It’s a very personal process, because every Rolex watch has it’s own story, having often lived several lives. My role is to combine specialist product knowledge with the trusted standards you’d expect from an Official Rolex Retailer.

What makes the programme so important, and what does it bring to our business?

Rolex watches are built to last. The Certified Pre-Owned programme gives clients the opportunity to purchase a previously owned Rolex that has been certified, fully serviced, rigorously tested and guaranteed by Rolex. That level of assurance is incredibly important in the pre-owned market, where confidence, provenance and expertise matter.

For us, it allows us to support customers throughout more of their Rolex ownership journey. We can help someone purchase a certified pre-owned timepiece, but we can also speak to existing Rolex owners who may be ready to sell, part-exchange or begin a new chapter. It strengthens our relationship with clients and reinforces our position as a trusted destination for Rolex expertise.

What do we look for when procuring watches for the programme?

We are interested in Rolex watches that may be suitable for the Certified Pre-Owned programme. Each watch is reviewed carefully, with attention to condition, model, age, documentation and suitability. Where appropriate, watches can then enter the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned process, where they are certified, serviced and tested to meet the standards of the programme.

What should customers expect when they enquire about selling?

The first step is a conversation. We’ll ask about the watch, its history, original documentation and its current condition. From there, we can arrange an assessment and guide the client through the next steps. Our aim is to make the process simple, respectful and informative, whether the customer is looking to sell outright or explore a new purchase.
